Product Engineer, Backend

Scale our infrastructure and build robust backend systems

London, UK (onsite)

Hey! We're team Granola 👋  If you haven't already, you should check out what we're building, and why you should work here.

We're looking for a backend-focused engineer to help us scale our systems to unlock Granola for the next 100x users.

In this role, you will deep dive into scaling challenges, build secure and reliable infrastructure, and develop robust backend solutions that power exciting new features.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the evolution and scaling of our backend infrastructure
  • Design and implement performant APIs and services
  • Build infrastructure to support cutting-edge AI capabilities
  • Optimize database performance and query efficiency
  • Continuously improve reliability and observability through enhanced monitoring and alerting
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure our infrastructure supports continuous product innovation

Your background looks something like:

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in tech and product-driven environments
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code (we build on AWS using Terraform)
  • Deep knowledge of relational databases (we use PostgreSQL)
  • Familiarity with serverless architectures (we love lambdas!)
  • Solid understanding of security best practices and performance optimization
  • Interest in infrastructure for AI/ML (direct experience is a bonus, but not required)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements and shifting priorities

As a person, you…

  • Are first and foremost a builder
  • Are excited to work in-person from our office in London (most of the time)
  • Love working in a startup environment (you either have experience working in a startup or are really drawn to the zero-to-one phase)
  • Value working with people who are kind, ambitious, and pragmatic

About the Opportunity

We are living in the most exciting time for tool builders since Engelbart's demo in 1968. We want to assemble the best crew to build this future together, here in London. Our compensation philosophy is to pay slightly above market on salary and above market on equity.

We do our best work in person, and so our team spends time together five days per week in our new, bright, and spacious office at Old Street. We are happy to offer relocation assistance to candidates who'll be moving to London to join us.

Lastly, we think amazing talent comes from all kinds of life journeys and experiences. If what is written above speaks to you, whether you look like a fit on paper or not, please reach out.
